Case of the Month: A Decade-Long Journey with Implant-Supported Hybrid Dentures for Aggressive Periodontitis

A 30-year-old patient from the USA visited us in 2015 with the chief complaint of mobility teeth and difficulty in eat. The patient wanted to replace his teeth, as he was unable to eat properly. On examination, the patient was diagnosed with aggressive periodontitis. All teeth were mobile, with noticeable gum recession. Significant bone loss was also observed on the CBCT scan. Possible treatment options, including removable complete dentures, implant-supported over dentures, and implant-supported fixed dentures, along with their respective advantages and disadvantages, were explained to the patient. The patient opted for fixed teeth and decided to proceed with implant surgery. Teeth from both the upper and lower arches were extracted, and implants were placed. After a healing period of three months, hybrid dentures for both the upper and lower arches were delivered. The patient returned to our clinic after a decade with a complaint of fractured front teeth in his denture. A detailed clinical examination along with X-ray imaging confirmed that all previously placed implants were intact, with no signs of bone loss or complications. A new set of hybrid dentures for both the upper and lower jaws was carefully designed and delivered, restoring both aesthetics and function.

The patient left with a confident smile once again.
